Hockey Helpers

February 17, 2015:  Barry Cauchon

Hi all:  Had I completed it back in 1993, this cartoon would have been No. 32 of my finished cartoons.  Recently, I did some clean up on the finished pencil drawing using computer-generated techniques (see below) and present it here as a semi-finished piece.  Normally, in a finished version, I would have used black pen and ink.Ice Hockey - Street Hockey (Jan 1993) FINAL

Prior to this, I had prepared the roughed-in pencil drawing for the final (see below).  Had I continued to finish the piece at that time, the next step would have been to apply the black ink over the pencil and then, after it was dry, use an eraser to clean up the pencil lines that were not required.  You’ll notice that the Zamboni was added after I drew the rink boards.  Once I added the Zamboni on top of the rink boards (both in pencil), I would have added the black ink on top of the Zamboni and the rink boards where visible.  Everything else would have been erased afterwards.  A similar process was used for the Street Cleaner/Sweeper.48b. Ice Hockey - Street Hockey (rough final)(Jan 1993)

For those of you interested in the original sketch, here is the drawing that I used to capture the idea in my sketchbook.  It was dated January 02, 1993 and was done in pencil (see below).48c. Ice Hockey-Street Hockey (original rough)(02Jan93)

That is my cartooning process for the most part.  I’m sorry that I never completed this one in pen and ink.  Maybe one day soon I’ll get around to doing just that.

Have a fantastic day.

Barry
